Santa Barbara City College seeks public input on redistricting for its Board of Trustees

The Santa Barbara City College District (SBCCD) Board of Trustees seeks the public’s input as it moves forward with a process to evaluate and adjust the boundaries of the seven trustee areas of the district, a process known as redistricting. Redistricting is required following the release of data from each United States census, conducted every 10 years.

SBCCD has contracted the services of Cooperative Strategies to assist it with this process. Based on their analysis, it has been determined that the boundaries need to be adjusted due to substantial changes in population growth in the areas served by Santa Barbara City College.

A special meeting of the Board of Trustees will be held on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022 at 4 p.m. over Zoom. An overview of the trustee areas and two proposed scenarios will be shared and comments from the public are welcome. Requests to speak may be sent in advance by sending an email to jtuazon@pipeline.sbcc.edu by 3:30 p.m. the day of the meeting. Participants may also request to participate via Zoom during the meeting. Members of the public are also invited to view the two proposed scenarios on SBCC’s website and submit feedback via an online survey. The deadline to submit any feedback is Feb. 11, 2022.

Following the special meeting, any revisions to the maps will be completed and the revisions posted by Feb. 14, 2022.  The Board of Trustees will finalize the maps at their Feb. 17, 2022 meeting.

For more information, visit the SBCC Redistricting webpage. The redistricting process is scheduled to be completed by Mar. 1, 2022.
