Research Experience for Undergraduates

Research is a big part of graduate work, and getting research experience early on is great for your graduate school applications and resume. It’s also a great way to learn some practical skills and new kinds of math!

Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) programs are academic internship programs designed specifically with undergraduate students in mind.

Usually they are scheduled during the summer at various universities, and offer a stipend to students who are accepted. Most offer housing on campus or assistance in finding temporary summer housing as well, so consider out of state opportunities in your search. Usually you are not allowed to hold other jobs or take summer classes while you are in the program, as they are designed to give you full time work experience.
